So I wanted to do up a post about my Mom, it was her birthday yesterday and it always seems that on her birthday I tend to reflect on all the great things my mom has done for me, and just in the past year there were alot.
Well I got pregnant in February and told my parents in May the good news and my Mom was so happy for us. One thing I really love about my Mom is her patients, she would never call me to see if I had my appointment yet, or to ask how the baby was doing (I hated that question while I was pregnant and everyone seemed to ask it all the time. How am I suppose to know how it was doing, it was inside of me...anyways), if I was in Labour,or any other such question. She would always just wait for me to call her cause she knew she would hear about it sooner than later.
So somewhere between my 25th and 30th week of labour I watched a video of a birth, but one of those ones where you see EVERYTHING! And it was actually unintentional, I had just intended to watch and epidural be put in, got distracted looked back and she was in full on pushing, and I could not take my eyes off. All this I watched by myself while Jared had his brother over. Well to say the least I got very upset about what I had just watched, so I went to a private place and called my Mom, and woke her up (it was 10:30pm). She wasn't upset that I woke her she was just very consoling. She listened to me sobbing about how I didn't think I could do what I just saw, that my body could not look like that, and that I just wanted her to make it stop (all this while I laid on my bed in the fetal position). Then she consoled me and told me that I would do great, that I was strong and that my body would go back to the way it should be, and that really it was too late and she could not make it stop... (tough luck right, haha).
She told me I was beautiful while I carried around a big old belly, she was proud of the time I spent researching what I was going through and what kind of options I had for labour.
And then it came time for me to have my baby, and she didn't care if I did or didn't want her there. Of course I wanted her there though. And when she came I was waiting for my cervix to ripen up a bit so they could break my water, and she made me laugh and kept my mind off of what was coming. After they broke my water she comforted my and told me what I was experiencing was normal, she sat on the sidelines so that my Jared could comfort me and be my husband, she never tried to take over that. She came and rubbed my head at just the right moment and encouraged me all along the way.
When it came time when I did not think I could do it anymore and the pain was so incredibly bad, she told me I would not be any less of a person if I decided to get an epidural, it didn't make me a failure, or less strong.
And when I was pushing my baby out she sat in the corner where I would have privacy to experience that great blessing with my husband (she had told me before that she would be there until I pushed cause she thought it was a special thing to have with my husband). But when it came down to it, it was special to have my husband stand beside me, but I also wanted to give my mom the opportunity to at least watch. So I invited her to see what was going on, and she in the end expressed her gratitude to me, it was something she had never seen from that end before and she thought it was so neat.
In the week following my Mom stayed with us and cooked us awesome healthy food never mind the fact that she also went out in terrible weather and bought all our groceries and did any errands I needed, she supported me when I was frustrated with breastfeeding, she held my baby when I just needed to sleep, she also gave us space when we just needed to learn ourselves.
And now she spoils my little guy and gets him whatever he needs, and I love it. She is able to give him little things that we are not able to right now (we didn't really get him anything other than diapers for christmas...). I could go on and on about my awesome Mom, and maybe another day I will.
But I just want to say Happy Birthday Mom, I love ya.
